Brief Update

To the few who may stumble upon here. This site is not dead. I’ve had some personal stuff in my life fall apart and haven’t been focusing on the extracurriculars that much.

Goals…I has them.

Well, it’s been almost three weeks and I have been sticking pretty good to reaching a healthy state. I’ve been eating clean and working out at least 4 times a week. I’ve already began to notice my pants fitting better. But I am missing something. I need some defined goals. I could set something simple like a specific weight, but that can be deceptive and allusive. I need something a little more concrete. Something that shows me not only losing weight but getting healthier as well.

These might be ambitious, but thats good….I think.

1.) I want to fit into a pair of pants whose size starts with the number four. I don’t remember that last time I was in a 40 something, but I think it was in the 9th or 10th grade. I’m currently at a 56 now, so we will see.

2.) I want to run a mile. Not run a little then walk a little. No. I want to run a full mile without stopping. I don’t think I have ever done this…ever.

3.) I want to be able to do a pull up…or several. I’m not completly sure how long this will take, because it takes into account not only how much weight I lose, but how much strength I gain.

Progress Report

So it has been 12 day since I started this site and I am happy to say that I have begun to feel that changes. Not only in my body but in my frame of mind. And in my opinion it is ones mindset that will ultimately decided if he will fail or succeed. I see food not as a cure for boredom, but as a fuel. I have been walking past the vending machine 10 times a day, and not once have I gotten that familiar urge to trade 75 cents for a package of delicious peanut butter M&M’s. This is not something I could have said a month ago. Something is definitely different.

In that past 12 days I have been to the gym 9 times. This is unheard of for me. I work 11 hours a day and get a 1 hour lunch break. I use this time to visit the 24 hour fitness we have on site at the airport. It feels good to go and workout instead of loafing around in the break room stuffing my face. I’ve noticed I have been sleeping better, waking up easier, and just feeling all around energized.

My meals have also changed. In the past 12 days I have only eaten fast food twice. This is a big step down from my usual twice daily visits to the windows of glutton. And those two times? Once was at Jack-in-the-Box where I got a Chicken Pita which comes in at a meager 300 calories and the other was at McDonald’s, where I got a Grilled Chicken sandwich which has 340 calories I believe. As for my prepared foods. I try to eat about six times a day. One meal is a protein shake after my workouts. The other five usually chicken, pork, or beef. Accompany that with some rice or potatoes and broccoli, and I got a pretty good meal. I look to keep each meal at around 450 calories.

It’s been working out real well. I can already feel my pants becoming a bit looser. I think this may be it.

Suprise! I live in the fattest city in America.

According to a Mens Fitness survey, Las Vegas is the fattest city in America.

Great.

I guess it should come as no surprise. I mean, this is the city of over indulgence. I just wish I didn’t contribute to this award.

Apparently, what happens in Vegas truly does stay in Vegas — especially right at the waistline.

Sin City was named America’s Fattest City, an annual dubious honor Men’s Fitness magazine bestows upon the nation’s most overweight city. On the flip side, Colorado Springs earned the title of America’s Fittest City in the issue, which hits newsstands today.

Update…

Well, this is a good sign. Only up for around four days and my host goes down for close to 24 hours. Oh well. I’m working on a new theme for the site as the old one didn’t quite cut it. So things may look a little off for a while. On to my weight loss. I’ve now gone to the gym three days in a row. May not seem like much, but it’s a big step for me. There is a 24 Hour Fitness at the Airport where I work and I am fortunate enough to have an hour for my lunch break so I have been using that time to go throw some weights around. It’s working out pretty good. It keeps me focused and jamming through my workouts as I only have a limited time.

Playlist

If there is one thing I cannot workout without, it’s music. My workouts suck without music. I think I have read about a study where bodybuilders were able to lift more on average during a workout with music than without. So I think I’ll start posting whenever I change or update my workout playlist. I know it’s kind of difficult to keep the music fresh. What I have for this week…

I’m Shipping Up to Boston - Dropkick Murphys
Linkin Park - Faint
Broken - Lucky Boys Confusion
Getting Away With Murder - Papa Roach
Injection - Rise Against
Pretty Handsome Awkward - The Used
My Curse - Killswitch Engage
Holy Diver - Killswitch Engage
The Fad - Chevelle
Out Of Exile - Audioslave
Won’t Back Down - Fuel
Wake the Dead - The Used

Day 1…

Well, here it is. The first of many public internet floggings. God willing, with any luck, I will be posting every day. You hear people say, “I got to get back in shape”. Well, I need to get in shape, I have never been there before. I have never ran a mile straight. The last time I did a pull up, I was in elementary school. I don’t think I have ever done more than 20 push ups in a row. I’m not sure how much I weigh right now and I am debating if I even want to know.

For those who have never been there, It’s easy to get lost as to why I am not too eager to find out how much I weigh. But when stepping on that scale, your heart sinks when you see how far gone you truly are. It takes the wind out of you. You instantly get this sense of hopelessness that is extremely hard to shake. But then again, I want to be accurate when I do eventually achieve what I have wanted for so long. I want to be able to say how far gone I was and that I pulled myself back. So who knows. Tomorrow after work, I will be at the gym, and I will probably step on that scale. Who knows what will happen after that.
